You can additionally book insurance yourself through the Igoinsured portal.
*Please note if you are not eligible to sell insurance (you have not completed the exam, obtained a certificate, etc, based on your provincial requirements) you will not be able to book insurance on the portal and are not legally allowed to sell insurance.
Provincial Licensing Requirements
SATT has researched the licensing process for selling insurance based on your province or territory.
Most regions require passing an exam, obtaining a license, or having a certificate before you can legally sell travel insurance.
Below are the requirements by province:
- Selling Within Your Province: Your license allows you to sell travel insuranceonlyto clients residing in your licensed province.
-
Selling Outside Your Province: To sell to clients outside your licensed area, you must obtain a license in the client’s province as well.
Compliance Responsibility
As per your SATT contract, you are responsible for keeping your license valid, updating information, and completing mandatory training/exams.
SATT and Manulife conduct audits to ensure compliance.
Violations such as selling outside your licensed province or without a valid license can result in:
- Revocation of access to sell travel insurance
- Commission recalls
- Responsibility for any incurred fines
To sell insurance to a client residing outside your licensed province, you must:
- Be licensed in your home province.
- Obtain a license in the client’s province.
Licensing procedures are often similar across provinces but may have minor differences.
If obtaining a license is not feasible, you can still offer options to your clients without directly selling or advising on travel insurance.
If your client purchases insurance from one of these options, you will still earn a commission.
These options include:
-
Sharing the link with your client so that they can purchase insurance on their own.
If you are not licensed, you cannot advise your client which policy to book or book them yourself.
However, you can let the client know that although you are not able to advise on/book insurance because you are not licensed in their province, that they can use your link for more information on insurance and to purchase it themselves. -
Referring your clients to book directly:
You can direct your client to book directly with Manulife and still receive recognition for the booking.
